Programs

We are not a traditional bike shop; rather, we are a non-profit

bike cooperative committed to our communities.

Need a new bike? Enter our free bike giveaways. Stay tuned and be the first to find out about our next giveaway by following our Instagram or Facebook! You can also subscribe to our e-mail newsletter, using the form on our Home page.

Need bike repairs? Attend our Open Shop, where you can learn to repair your own bike. All ages are welcome, and no prior experience or skills are needed; we supply the tools, and our staff and volunteers are available to provide guidance. Read below to learn more. Please note that we do not sell bike parts, or repair services in which we fix the bike for you. For those, we suggest visiting one of our local for-profit bike shop partners.

Want to donate a bike or bike parts? We’re more than happy to take those! We use item donations to support youth education programs and community giveaways. Please contact bnr@communitiesunited.org. From there, we can coordinate a time for you to drop your donation off at our location. Thank you for your kindness!

Open Shop

Hours vary. Currently, as of October 2025, Open Shop is Thursdays, 3-7pm. Check back here or follow our Instagram for updates!

Open Shop provides community members a welcoming space to work on their bikes, receive guidance, and learn repair skills. Volunteers and staff are available to offer advice, ensuring that everyone, from beginners to seasoned mechanics, has the tools and support they need. This weekly event fosters collaboration, as participants share knowledge, troubleshoot problems, and help each other fix their bikes. Open Shop not only promotes self-sufficient bike maintenance but also strengthens intergenerational community connections and supports sustainable transportation practices.

The 10-week program provides youth an opportunity to learn how to build and repair bikes while developing communication and entrepreneurial skills. Youth in the program work through a comprehensive bike mechanics curriculum, community organizing opportunities, and make connections to industry partners through field trips and hosting visiting professionals. Returning students have the option to apply for intern roles to take on more responsibilities and embrace leadership opportunities. In partnership with After School Matters, many youth receive a stipend for their time in this program.
